I was thrilled to be chosen as an Artist to Watch for the new journal, “Art Quilt Collector”, published by SAQA. Issue 2, just released, includes a four-page spread on my work, and similar coverage of two artists whose work I enjoy: Natalya Aikens and K. Velis Turan.

The issue focuses on urban landscape, and includes an article on documenting your collection, another on storage, and an in-depth look at the recent work of Michael James, as well as other features. For information about subscribing to “Art Quilt Collector”, please click here.

Stewart Hall Art Rental Collection 2016

Congratulations to AHA members Linda Denis, Heather Dubreuil, and Shernya Vininsky, whose work has been juried into the annual Stewart Hall Art Rental Collection. The show includes drawings, paintings, photography, prints and mixed media.

The selected works will be on display at Stewart Hall, 176 Lakeshore Road in Pointe Claire, from October 31 to November 29.

Gallery hours are Monday – Sunday, 1 – 5 pm, and on Wednesdays until 9 pm.

The vernissage is on Sunday, November 1, from 2 – 4:30 pm.

Images of the more than 100 art works in the collection will be posted on the website of the Rental Service shortly.

Open Studio for Shernya Vininsky

AHA member Shernya Vininsky writes,

Hi there! I would like to invite you to visit me at my studio where you can see my newest paintings and some older ones. This is an Exhibit and Sale. I open my studio once a year at this time and look forward to your visit and encouragement. This is part of a province-wide event, Les Journées de la Culture organized by Quebec, so watch for my red and white balloons and signs.

Dates and times of opening: Saturday September 26 and Sunday September 27, 10am to 4pm. Call to make a special appointment if these times don’t work for you.

Cathryn McNamee: two new books!

AHA member Cathryn McNamee is pleased to share news of the publication of her two latest books.

“The Reluctant Butterfly is a story about a monarch caterpillar who does not want to be a butterfly. It is especially timely as  Monarch butterflies are in swift decline.

Céline Poirier did the wonderful illustrations.

The second story is called The Mysterious Raven. What happens to the world when the moon disappears?

The illustrations are beautifully rendered by Sarah Deschênes.

Anyone familiar with my work will recognize Sarah from other story illustrations she has done for me.”

Sélections 2015 @ Trinity Gallery, Ottawa

Congratulations to AHA members Ginette Parizeau and Heather Dubreuil whose work was selected for this annual juried show, open to members of Arts Ottawa East. This year 295 submissions from 97 artists were received, with thirty-seven artists represented in the final selection.

The show runs from September 24 to October 20, 2015, at the Trinity Art Gallery, Shenkman Arts Centre, 245 Centrum Blvd, Ottawa. Hours are Monday to Sunday, 9 am – 10 pm.

As well, the entire show is available for viewing on line, www.flickr.com/photos/artsottawa and viewers are invited to vote for their favourite. Three People’s Choice awards will be announced on October 22 at www.artsoe.ca
