Our first meeting after the winter was very well attended and all who stayed for the demonstration by artist Luce Lamoureux were very impressed with her process.

The first photo, above, was at the 10-minute mark and she said the painting was 80% finished which was quite astonishing.

The second photo, below, is closer to completion. Luce shared her techniques and thought processes as she worked on the painting which was very illuminating to our artists, especially those who work in watercolour and acrylic.

Allegro Vivace, by Anne Van Mierlo, 36 x 48

Anne Van Mierlo, who presented to the AHA earlier this year, writes:

“It sometimes happens, I had problems with the demo painting, probably because I did not have a proper reference. The piano player was changed and changed and changed, but I think I got it right now, and have managed to overcome the “overpainting look”.  Here it is, and please pass it on to the members of the art group.”

Anne Van Mierlo has continued to develop the painting she worked on in her demo at our April 9 meeting. She provides an update:

I am very close to finishing my painting. As a matter of fact I thought it was finished (after many layers) but when looking at the photograph I am not quite sure whether I do not want to put some more darks in the upper left corner.

Many changes were made to the pianist’s hair and face, his position, the position of the piano, and some  changes to the audience. I am VERY happy with the bold brushstrokes at the top of the pianist’s head because I needed more focus on him, and also I needed to break the horizontal strokes in the background…….

Anyway here it is, I will be staring at it for a couple of weeks, and if I make a change I shall send the new version.

All the best, Anne Van Mierlo
